Release 8.2.0 DETAILS AND FEATURES
The following is an overview of three new features that can be found in HPSS 8.2.0.
New to HPSS 8.2.0
Rumbler API Support
HPSS provides an API to allow unified storage namespace (USN) applications to incorporate snapshots of the HPSS namespace.
USN applications provide a higher-level view of storage in data centers, including parallel file systems, project space, community and campaign stores, and archive namespaces. Such applications provide high-speed search capabilities and additionally allow annotation of data sets with custom metadata for multiple purposes including, but not limited to:
- Assign provenance e.g. Digital Object Identifiers (DOI)
- Describe access frequency (hot, warm, cold) to drive data migration policies
- Classify data with arbitrary tags to assist with workflow automation
- Calculate/apply hashes for purposes of data integrity checking, de-duplication, etc.
Parallel FTP Update: Support for MLST
MLST functionality is added to PFTP. MLST provides data about exactly the object named on its command line and no others.
Parallel FTP Update: Support Checksum
The PFTP client and server now support setting and getting HPSS file hash information. This information is the E2EDI file hash metadata stored along with the bitfile – this is not the legacy User-defined Attributes-based file hash.
